Description
This globe shows present-day St. Petersburg, Russia, as “Leningrad,” therefore, it was made after 1924. Further, it shows Constantinople rather than Istanbul, indicating a date of manufacture before 1930.
Rand McNally issued an 8-inch globe on a variety of stands, both metal and wood, in the 1930s. This example is on a traditional stand in the Georgian English or Dutch Baroque taste. The stand is particularly finely made — likely by a top furniture manufacturer of the period for home or business use, rather than for the classroom. Indeed, the presence of steamship routes further indicates that the globe was intended for the business market.

Condition: Globe is generally very good with the usual overall light toning, wear, handling. Red steamship lines somewhat faded A few abrasions are professionally restored. Horizon band is without paper calendar, as issued. The stand is good with the usual overall light wear, aging, minor restorations.
