Triptych of sepia etched views taken from the southernmost point of Key West, showing a dock extending into the water, oceanfront property, and a beach house hidden behind numerous palm trees. This work is by William Cantwell (b. 1947), an artist who spent the winters in Key West in the late 1980s, and continues to specialize in tropical themes.

Description

William “Bill” Cantwell is a contemporary American painter and printmaker, He studied at the Philadelphia Museum College of Art and received a bachelor of arts degree at Trinity College in Connecticut. Subsequently, he moved to New York and attended classes at the School of Visual Arts, Parsons School of Design, and at the Art Students’ League. Throughout his long career, he has received numerous awards and prizes primarily for his prints. Exhibitions of his works include the Washington Square Outdoor Art Exhibit, New York; Art in New Hampshire Festival, Manchester; and the Fort Lauderdale Festival of the Arts, Florida. In 1980 William Cantwell was the recipient of The Philip Isenberg Award for Excellence in Graphics from the Salmagundi Club, New York.

Condition: Generally very good with the usual light overall toning and wear. Margins slightly irregular, probably as issued, can be adjusted when matting.
