Apothecary Jars
B Lucatelli
C Rosmarin
Dutch, 19th/early 20th Century
Ceramic, glazed
8 inches high, 4.5 inches diameter
A pair of ceramic apothecary jars, each cylindrical with a round lid. Each with a Latin name: B Lucatelli or Rosmarin (Rosemary). Each white glazed, variously decorated in the baroque taste with flowers and fauna, and a blue armorial shield with 3 beehives. They probably are Delftware (Dutch tin-glazed earthenware).
Balsam of Lucatelli is an antiquated medical compound that was administered for tuberculosis, made of balsam of Peru and other ingredients.
