Description
Numerous early historic events and buildings are illustrated in small vignettes such as “Battle of Long Island,” “Clement C. Moore house where ‘Night Before Christmas’ was written,” “Nathan Hale Captured,” and “First L.I. Windmill 1804.” Overall the map is set within a geometric patterned border and decorated with a Mannerist style cartouche in the upper left and with a compass rose.
The National City Bank of New York was founded in 1812 as the City Bank of New York, and later renamed Citibank, which today is the consumer division of financial services multinational Citigroup.
