Description
The title and a legend of this view, identifying the aforementioned key landmarks, hotels, and cafes, appear in the lower margin. It was issued as a folding plate in Walker’s Atlas of Plymouth County. Nonetheless, it is fairly uncommon on the market. Other examples of this print are in the Library of Congress and Metropolitan Museum of Art.
Richard Parrot Mallory was a prominent American print maker. Born on December 10, 1813, in Plattsburgh, New York, Mallory moved to Boston at an early age where he learned wood engraving from his mentor Abel Brown. He also worked extensively in lithography.
Condition: Generally good, recently professionally cleaned and deacdified, with light remaining toning, handling and wear. Margins very good. Center vertical fold as issued, now flattened.
