An original neoclassical foliate design in purple tones, incorporating a pair of cornucopia with fruit, as well as a thyrsus (a staff tipped with a pine cone and decorative twine), grapes, and grape leaves associated with Dionysus, Greek god of wine. This design is characteristic of those made during the Regency period, a time of revival of ancient classical motifs following the exploration of the Middle East spurred by Napoleon’s explorations and conquests in Egypt.
