University of Maine Campus — Orono, Maine
Brown & Bigelow, St. Paul, Minnesota: c. 1960s
Color process print
26.75 x 40.75 inches, overall

A very large aerial view of the campus of the University of Maine at Orono. Precisely rendered, it was reproduced from a painting that appears to have been made after a photograph. The University of Maine is a public research university established in 1868. At that time, Frederick Law Olmsted, the landscape architect who also designed New York’s Central Park, conceived the original campus plan. In 1978, the National Register of Historic Places designated a University of Maine at Orono Historic District that includes 10 architecturally significant structures constructed between the university’s founding in 1868 and 1913.
