This Is Texas: A Photographic Tour of the Greatest State
The Steck Company, Austin, Texas: 1936
Quarto, photographic images, printed cloth covers
Scarce book celebrating the state of Texas issued upon the Texas Centennial in 1936, marking 100 years of Texas independence. Profusely illustrated with documentary photographs and captions presenting a picture of the state’s economy such as agriculture and the rise of the oil boom. As an interesting aside, This Is Texas figures in philatelic history — a photograph of the El Paso Mission in this book was among the sources for the illustration on the Fort Bliss Centennial Issue stamp in 1948. Signed on the inside in facsimile by James V. Allred, Governor of Texas, and filled with numerous halftone images, usually two or three per page, from the University of Texas to longhorn cattle.
