A lone canoeist paddles through a marshy autumnal landscape which is dominated by a dramatic cloud-filled sky.

Ray Anthony Grathwol was known for his paintings of rural landscapes and street scenes depicting Akron neighborhoods. Born in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio, he lived and worked in Akron. He exhibited widely during his lifetime, including the National Academy of Design in New York, the New York World’s Fair and the Carnegie Institute. Grathwol is included in Who Was Who in American Art.
