Series of original Beaux Arts architectural studies executed with geometric precision and skillful handling of the watercolor medium. Each study is set within a circle, showing the arcs and angles generating the perspective views. The studies combine elements of Gothic, medieval, classical and late 19th century architecture, though some are purely geometric. Calligraphic notations contain information such as, “horizon 5 f. above the ground, St. Pt. 12 f. from the picture, Scale 1/2 inch to 1 f.” Such studies were regular exercises for architectural students; these are particularly precise and accomplished.
The studies are on paper blind-stamped “Reynold’s Bristolboard,” with notations in English. Accordingly, they are assumed to be of English origin.
Condition: Generally very good with the usual light overall toning, wear, and scattered soiling. Some occasional foxing. Some corners irregularly cut, can be matted out.
