Description
Bayuk Cigars, Inc. was founded in Philadelphia in 1896 by three brothers, Sam, Max and Meyer Bayuk and was a major American cigar manufacturer throughout most of the 20th century, until going out of business in 1982. The company was called Bayuk Cigars, Inc. beginning in 1923. Their most popular brand during that period was the Philadelphia Perfecto; in fact it was so popular that imitators copied it; in 1931 the company successfully sued in New York State Supreme Court to prevent their competitors from using the words Philadelphia or Phillies without making the packaging distinctly different. The Phillies brand was eventually absorbed into what is now Altadis U.S.A., the country’s largest cigar manufacturer.
