A sculpture of a confident young male athlete, shown ready  — as the title of the work suggests — to take a sports challenge. He is dressed in a sports tank top and shorts, and high laced shoes of the period. His outfit is decorated with stars and fringe, suggesting he is a performer, perhaps for a circus. It is cast in metal with a light silvered finish and raised on a contiguous plinth, inscribed with the artist’s name Bouret and bearing a metal tag with the title and artist’s name.  It stands on the original rectangular rouge marble base.

This was a popularly produced Bouret sculpture; other extant examples in bronze are known.

Condition: Generally very good with the usual overall wear to finish.
