A fine American gyroscope. This type of scientific demonstration device shows angular orientation, momentum, torque, rotation, and other concepts of physics. Of typical form, it consists of a spin axis, gimbal, and rotor and is raised on a circular nickel-plated iron rod ending in a black painted iron stepped round base. The gyroscope spins with the pull of a string cord. The post is stamped with the maker’s name C.H. Stoelting Co.

Description

C.H. Stoelting Company is an Illinois company specializing in scientific measurement instruments. Founded in Chicago in 1886 by Christian Hans Stoelting, the company was a pioneer in the physiological and psychological apparatus fields. In 1904, the company was awarded medals at the St. Louis Universal Exposition. Today the company is known simply as Stoelting, with its corporate headquarters in Wood Dale, Illinois.

Condition: Generally very good, with the usual overall light wear and oxidation.
