Description
Columbus Verlag Paul Oestergaard is a major German globe making company founded in Berlin in 1905 by Paul Oestergaard and run by successive generations of his descendants up to his great-grandson in the present day. From the beginning, Columbus emphasized mass-production to make globes affordable to a broad public. Before World War II, the company had a large export business, producing globes in 24 languages. After the war, because the Russian blockade in 1948-49 isolated Berlin from the rest of West Germany, the company established a plant in Stuttgart. Throughout its history, the company has developed innovative designs for conveying the educational content of their globes.
