Geographic entities are colored in green, yellow, and pink (faded) and outlined in darker shades of those colors. Geography shows countries, major cities, and rivers, with mountain ranges highlighted with hatched shading. St. Petersburg is shown, indicating a date before 1914. Orange Free State is shown in South Africa, indicating a date before 1902. The ecliptic, equator, and equinoctial colures are graduated and colored yellow and black. The Tropics of Cancer and Capricorn are indicated by dotted lines. The Greenwich Meridian is labeled and shown as a solid line. Submarine telegraph cables are shown in the oceans and labeled “Sub. Tel.” Colonial island possessions are indicated by abbreviations in parentheses: “Br.” for British, “Fr.” for French, “Sp.” for Spanish. The Hawaiian Islands and Alaska, which had not yet become states, are similarly labeled “U.S.” and “To United States” respectively. There is a figure-eight analemma in the Pacific Ocean.
