A figurine of a lion, loosely based on the famous Medici lion sculptures. The male lion has large main and is shown standing sideways with a paw resting on a ball, and with a conforming rectangular base. The narrow figurine has the mirror image of the lion on the backside. The Medici lions are a pair of marble sculptures of lions — one ancient, the other a Renaissance copy — placed in the late 16th century at the Villa Medici, Rome. Currently they are displayed at the Loggia dei Lanzi, Florence. Stamped on underside, MADE IN ITALY. Very good condition, noting one small restored chip in glazing in base.
Condition: Fine overall. Some light crazing to glazing.
