Late Italian Renaissance style terrestrial globe, with cartography of the time of Columbus, and decorated with flora and fauna, ships and sea creatures.  Raised within a half meridian on a tripod bronze stand in the ancient Roman style, it has lion monopodium legs headed by winged griffins, and a triform incurved base.

Old world globes such as these were made in the 20th century as Grand Tour or tourist items.  This example is particularly unusual, however, for its nicely cast classical bronze base.
