A celestial globe mounted in a rectangular wooden box for shipboard navigation using star locations. The globe has a calibrated full brass meridian, mounted in a circular brass directional horizon band, which in turn is set within a detachable hemisphere made of four graduated altitude quadrants surmounted by a ball finial. The entire assembly is mounted with paper instructions in a mahogany rectangular box with rectangular brass escutcheon on the keyhole, closing with two eyehooks.
A nearly identical globe is in the collection of the National Maritime Museum, Greenwich, England (see Reference below).
