Large painting of a yacht in full sail, making parting waves and leaving a wake in the deep blue ocean. On the horizon are other sailboats in a distant regatta. The crisp painting style emphasizes the play of light on the sails and the details of the rigging and the three-man crew at work.
Dean Waite is an artist and illustrator primarily known for his maritime subjects. Born in New York City and raised in Newton , Massachusetts , he studied in the art school run by Boston painter Vesper Lincoln George (1865-1934), graduating with honors. He spent his career working as an art director, graphic designer and technical artist for various companies in New England and Seattle including Houghton Mifflin and Boeing. Meanwhile, he exhibited his marine paintings and portraits and produced cover art for publications such as Yachting and Motor Boating magazines.
