Morris Rosenfeld is one of the greatest American photojournalists specializing in sailing vessels. He set up his studio in New York City at the turn of the century, and recorded in photographs the great yachts and regattas of the first half of the Century. In Rosenfeld's words, "I have covered every major American yachting event since Sir Thomas Lipton came over here with his first Shamrock in 1899."
A selection of Rosenfeld's works was published in 1957 in "Under Full Sail -- 50 Years of Great Marine Photographs." In this book, commentator Everett B. Morris observed: "The Sea is a Theater, on whose restless stage only the actors change." With Rosenfeld's series of marine photographs, "the great players in the shows of sailing's age of canvas and wood and hemp perform again."
