Two sensitively modeled bronze portrait medals of the famous composer Ludwig von Beethoven (1770-1827).  Both depict him in profile, gazing downward as if deep in thought.  The smaller one focuses on the head, the larger one shows a three-quarter-length view, with Beethoven dressed in a frock coat.  The Art Nouveau style of the raised lettering suggests they date to the first quarter of the 20th century.

Franz Stiasny produced a large series of bronze portrait medals of important writers, musicians and historical personages in rectangular formats similar to these.
