Painting of a rectangular, tightly woven, basket of caught fish set on a grassy bank at water's edge. In contrast to the caught fish, live fish swim freely in the water around an open-weave net-form basket used for fishing. A mountain rises in the distance. The composition shows originality in terms of subject matter and sophistication in the play of lines and patterns. It is mounted in a French mat in gold leaf frame with acanthus corners.
This work has the label of Kennedy Galleries, a venerable New York City gallery, on the back of the frame.
