Engraving depicting the circular design for King Arthur's legendary Round Table, a huge structure that was long believed to have been hung on the wall of the Great Hall of Winchester Castle by King Arthur himself.
The actual table was first recorded at Winchester in 1463. It was the subject of a scientific investigation in 1976, and it was determined that it dated to the reign of Edward I in the 1270s and was probably built by Edward, who had a great interest in King Arthur.
John Wilkes (1750-1810) was a printer, bookseller and stationer. He published the Universal British Directory for several years.
