View of the Brooklyn Bridge in New York City from beneath the Manhattan Bridge, showing the East River and the Brooklyn shoreline in the distance.  Two people, perhaps workers, stand beside the nearby support pillar of the bridge.   This is an artist’s proof.

George Stimmel was a painter, lithographer, etcher, illustrator and designer.  Born in New Jersey, he studied at the Pratt Institute of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.  Stimmel worked as a set designer at the Metropolitan Opera and was a member of the Scenic Artists Union.  He also exhibited his work at the Salmagundi Club and Salons of America.  His artwork typically depicted landscapes and scenes of daily life.  He made a large series of etchings of New York City landscapes and cityscapes often featuring bridges.
