David Nathanael Friedrich Dietrich edited an extensive collection of botanical illustrations. The palm and tropical trees and flora shown here are illustrated with pictures of the plant and frequently include details of flowers, fruit, seeds and stems. They are notable for the bold and active arrangements of the plants and their parts on the page, rather than isolating a specimen against a plain background as was more typical in botanical illustration.
