Charming set of original paintings of birds, executed with scientific detail and sensitivity. E.W. Steffen was a schoolteacher from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, who painted local birds. Steffen provided illustrations for the book Birds of South Dakota, published by the South Dakota Ornithologists Union and contributed works to a publication on Iowa birds. Two of his paintings belong to the permanent collection of Coe College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa.
