Unusual view on the Upper East Side of New York City showing a waterfront East River hotel amid a grove trees. In the East River is the steamship Knickerbocker, filled with passengers, as well as a small rowboat with four passengers. Caption reads: "An obliging Host, beautiful scenery and cool Summer-retreat, Refreshments of the first quality, with Horses and pleasure Wagons to let, also Boats and Tackle for fishing-parties, renders this place second to none in the vicinity of New York. Murphy's Stages from City Hall, Pell St. and Bowery, run every 15 minutes and carry passengers to this place for 6 Cents."
