Diorama game comprised of a box with long winding panoramic color lithographed view of America’s history, intended as a pastime for families to study American history with their children. The panorama features images of the landing of Columbus, the surrender of the Cornwallis at Yorktown, General Washington on horseback, and the Boston Tea Party.
The panorama is turned by an Allen wrench type key fit in the side of the box, and viewed through an opening framed by printed decoration simulating a stage set and with additional decorations (the box lid is similarly decorated).
The New York Historical Society has The Historiscope in the collection of its Henry Luce III Center for the Study of American Culture (see Reference below); theirs is dated circa 1875.
