Two-volume detailed biography of Napoleon. Large number of line engraved illustrations, after Vernet, interspersed with text. Frontis engraving after Vernet of a statue of Napoleon on horseback. Dedicated to Lord Holland, Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster.
George Moir Bussey was a 19th century author. His major works include his two-volume History of Napoleon (1840) and Fables, Original and Selected (1842).
Horace Vernet was a French painter specializing in portraits, history and genre subjects. Born in the Palais du Louvre, where his father and grandfather, both artists, then lived, he was trained by his father and then studied under François-André Vincent. In 1812 he debuted at the Salon, and began a successful artistic career. He received the Legion of Honor in 1814 for his role in the defense of Paris . His works are in major museum collections around the world including the Hermitage Museum, the Louvre, the National Gallery of Art in Washington and the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
