This small terrestrial globe is canted at an angle in a nickel-plated uncalibrated half meridian and raised on a nickel-plated stand with foliate central support on a round disk base. Due to its small size, cartography is fairly simple, noting nations, important cities and major rivers and bodies of water. Countries are colored yellow, pink, and green, with shaded outlining. Oceans are colored a light blue-green. The Antarctic is mostly empty and labeled "Antarctic Ocean," with a few partial outlines of known coastline near the Antarctic Circle indicated. The globe is copyrighted 1891, but could have also been produced slightly later, based on its having been offered in early19th century Rand McNally trade catalogs. Nevertheless, St. Petersburg is shown, indicating it was produced before 1914.

This globe was marketed by Rand McNally in its trade catalogs as a paperweight globe.  The Rand McNally three-inch paperweight globe with half meridian was also available with a glass domed stand that served as a magnifier and a similarly shaped wooden domed stand.
