The spherical globe surmounted by chromed finial, covered as issued with black slating material, incised with white-colored  lines of latitude and longitude, and outlines of continents, major islands and seas, canted on an angle on chromed inclination arm, on molded rectangular teak stand in the Danish modern taste.

Globes coated with slating material were produced from the mid 19th century as educational aids for the study of geography.  Students practiced drawing maps in chalk on the surface.

This example is in the Danish modern style, raised on a hardwood, possibly teak, base.  Unlike 19th century ones which are made of papier maché, this one has a hollow metal core in two sections fitted at the equator.
