Fine hand colored engravings on watermarked chain-link paper. Patronized by the Duchesse de Berry, Pancrace Bessa, a talented pupil of Redouté, is considered one of the greatest 19th century flower artists. He illustrated botanicals for 11 major color plate works beginning in 1808. Flore Des Jardiniers, his last work, was published in 1836. In each engraving the place where the flower is indigenous and months of flowering are shown in the lower left, and the key to botanical parts is shown in the lower right.
