Booklet of poetry by the Beat poet Gregory Corso, reproduced after his own handwriting and accompanied by his mathematical and scientific themed illustrations.   Subtitled “Collected at Random from 2 Suitcases Filled with Poems, the Gathering of 5 Years,” the collection spans five years of his work.  The book was produced in a limited edition of 150 and this copy is numbered 72.

Gregory Corso grew up in New York City.  Neglected by his troubled family, he wound up jailed at age 16, serving a three-year sentence for theft.  In prison, he began reading classic literature and writing poems.  Upon his release in 1950, he met the poet Allen Ginsberg.  His first published works appeared in 1954.  Soon after he moved to San Francisco and became one of the leading figures of the Beat Movement, giving readings with Ginsberg and Jack Kerouac.  During the late Fifties he lived in Paris and completed his collection Gasoline (1958).  His most active period was between 1958 and 1974, when he published numerous collections of poems, sometimes with other poets. He also taught for several summers at the Naropa Institute in Boulder, Colorado.
