Pictorial map of Albemarle County, Virginia, with an emphasis on the numerous historic buildings throughout the County, and historical figures associated with the area, especially Thomas Jefferson. At the center of the county is Charlottesville, home to Jefferson’s historic house Monticello and the University of Virginia, which Jefferson founded. The illustrations surrounding the county map feature important events from Jefferson’s career such writing the Declaration of Independence, obtaining the Louisiana Purchase, and commissioning the Lewis and Clark expedition. Other figures also featured include the Earl of Albemarle, Jack Jouett and the French general Lafayette. The border of the map consists of tiny line drawings of building facades.
