An original design for low relief ceiling panels incorporating geometric shapes in a lattice pattern. The drawing is executed in gray and brown wash. It was produced at the turn of the century and is signed, dated and titled, indicating that it was produced as an assignment (“devoir”), probably by an architecture student.

Inscribed top “Devoir du 3 Fevrier 1897. Plafond à compartiments.” [February 3, 1897 Assignment. Ceiling panels.]

Provenance: James Lamantia, Jr. (1923-2011). At the time of his death, Lamantia was Emeritus Professor of Architecture at Tulane University in New Orleans. He was also a practicing architect, and an artist.

Condition: Generally very good with the usual light toning, wear, soft creases.
