The terrestrial globe surmounted by hour disk in calibrated metal full meridian, the Empire-revival stand with bronzed metal horizon (calibrated 0 to 90 degrees four times) on four curved quadrant rod supports connected by thyrsus-pine-cone-form meridian holder, the spreading acanthus-decorated connector on verde-antico base with simple cylindrical column and round molded stepped base.
An innovative and unusual globe, the map surface physically in raised relief showing relative mountain heights. Simple cartography, lands in cream and green colors, some red outlining. Alaska referred to as Amerique Russe (indicated a date before 1869). The stand is in the French Empire taste, typical of decorative arts revival styles of the Napoleon III period in France (c. 1852-1870). The cartouche states this globe won prizes in the Paris Exposition of 1855 and the Dijon Exposition of 1858.
