Ferdinandus Magellanus - Portrait of the famous explorer Ferdinand Magellan based on a portrait of Magellan in &The Effigies Regum& of Crispin de Passe. The portrait is set within an elaborate decorative border incorporating a mermaid and merman. This border is a cut-out overlay, and was used in this edition by Derrick for other oval portraits of Sir William Cecil and Robert Dudley.
