This print of Glencoe in the Scottish Highlands is a fine example of aquatint art, the clouds well delineated. The original painting was executed by Robert Andrew Riddell, a Scottish landscape painter, and dedicated by him to Benjamin West, then President of the Royal Academy. Riddell had exhibited at the Academy in 1793. Archibald Robertson was an engraver and printseller in London.
The full inscription at the bottom reads: To Benjamin West Esqr. R.A. President of the Royal Academy, &c. this View of Glencoe, from the Head of the Glen is respectfully Inscribed, by his most obedient Humble Servant, Robert Andrew Riddell. Condition: Generally very good with the usual light toning, wear, soiling, soft creases. Soiling, creasing, and short tears slightly more prominent in outer margins, easily matted out. Central vertical hard crease, probably from where folded, perhaps as issued, not obtrusive. |
