Maud Stumm was an illustrator who depicted the kind of elegant but active young American beauty that was a popular subject of illustrated magazine covers and prints during the first quarter of the 20th century. She also did a series of portraits called "Eminent Actresses of Our Times" such as Lily Langtry and Sarah Bernhardt, and made figure and still life paintings. Stumm was born near Cleveland, Ohio, and received her art education at the Cleveland Art Club and at the Art Students League in New York.
