Bold and realistic painting of a bald eagle in a tree. Perched on a weathered tree limb, the powerful bird is posed dramatically against the sky, as if surveying its surroundings from high in the air. In original blue and white painted wooden frame.

We were unable to establish the identity of the artist, though evidently it was someone with impressive artistic technique and understanding of ornithology. The subtleties of the form of the eagle's head are skillfully rendered, as are the various textures of feathers, beak and weathered wood. Although there was a famous bird painter named Allan Brooks, examples of his signature that we have compared are different.

Condition: Generally very good with the usual overall toning. Some scattered browning or foxing to canvas. Varnish a bit yellowed and slightly dirty, probably should be cleaned and revarnished.
