Frederick Elmiger signature

Original still-life illustration art composition, showing violin, cello, harp, trumpet, oboe, and open sheet music against a light blue background.  The background incorporates stylistic elements from the neoclassical tradition, in which musical notes, clefs, bells, tassels and so forth are rendered en grisaille.

Frederick Elmiger was an American illustrator.  He frequently produced series on historical themes for Donald Art Company in Port Chester, New York, publishers of posters, lithographs, and artists' prints.  These included scenes from American history, Revolutionary war uniforms and vintage automobiles.  At the time of his death he was living in Larchmont, New York.

Condition: Generally very good with the usual overall toning and wear.  Paper with Strathmore paper blindstamp upper left corner.   Light mat burn to margins beyond image (size above), can be re-matted out. Backside outer margins with brown paper tape from former matting; this appears stable and not to be affecting the front.
