Large and unusual unique Victorian collages, made of cutouts of mid- and early-19th-century English hand-colored prints. These colorful and charming compositions variously include cut out blocks from the prints with background scenes and silhouetted figures and coats of arms and emblems, often accompanied by text captions. Arrangements in the different rectangular sections are generally divided by colored paper borders (some apparently with gold foil) and with repeating anthemia, lobed, and other patterns.
The subjects by title include: English Soldiers 15th Centuries; An English Nobleman State Dress 15 th Century; Ralph Neville Earl of Westmoreland; Military Costumes for the Reign of King Henry VI; Pages and Valets, Artillery, Cross-bowmen &c.; A Fisherman; King Edgar with an Anglo Saxon Youth of Distinction; Edward Prince of Aquitain & Wales, and the Duke of Cornwall.
Condition: Generally very good with the usual overall toning and wear. Some scattered losses and abrasions to small sections of decorative borders. Frames with usual wear.
