Original painting of a winter scene from under elevated train tracks of the Queensboro Bridge – also known as the 59th Street Bridge -- between Midtown Manhattan and Long Island City, Queens, in New York City.  Four men shovel snow, as children play in the background behind a group of parked cars.

George Stimmel was a painter, lithographer, etcher, illustrator and designer.  Born in New Jersey, he studied at the Pratt Institute of Art and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts.  Stimmel worked as a set designer at the Metropolitan Opera and was a member of the Scenic Artists Union.  He also exhibited his work at the Salmagundi Club and Salons of America.  His artwork typically depicted landscapes and scenes of daily life.  He made a large series of etchings of New York City landscapes and cityscapes often featuring bridges.

Condition:  Generally very good with the usual light overall toning and wear.
