It includes sections on New York, Long Island, Suffolk County, and the towns and villages of Babylon, Brookhaven, East Hampton, Huntington, Islip, Riverhead, Shelter Island, Smithtown, Southampton, and Southold.
This book features text, woodblock illustrations, and numerous wonderful rare full-page lithograph views of notable residences, farms, and sites, and portraits of prominent residents. It also has a large lithograph folding “Map of Long Island,” 27 x 11.5 inches, listing dates of the founding of each town and showing roads, railroads, and general street layouts. The towns are colored in shades of green, yellow, and pink.
W.W. Munsell & Co. and George MacNamara together published and printed several histories of New York and Pennsylvania counties in the 1880s.
Condition: Interior contents generally very good with the usual overall toning, handling, occasional minor foxing. Some minor scattered dampstaining to outer margins, not obtrusive. The covers good with usual wear, staining, abrasions. Spine professionally replaced making book overall quite sound.
