The tin terrestrial globe surmounted by wooden round finial, on red painted stand comprised of 3 curved rectangular supports above domed round base, the terrestrial cartography having black colored oceans, and geographical entities in a variety of bright colors, hinged and opening in the center by two simple clasps to reveal a concave northern and southern celestial hemispheres in each half respectively, the celestial hemispheres showing the constellations as figures in light blue on dark blue ground, stars shown in white and connected by straight white lines, the ecliptic shown in wide red dotted line.
Globe generally good with the usual light wear and oxidation of metal. Some minor denting in Africa not obtrusive. In the 1950s, Replogle issued a variety of tin specialty globes, including a Quiz Globe and Magnetic Air Race Globe. A standard form celestial globe showed the constellations as interpreted in classical mythology and according to scientific instruments, and features an astronomy book set within the base. Replogle also issued this "Surprise Globe" - a terrestrial globe with black oceans opening to reveal concave celestial maps of the northern and southern skies on the interior of similar style and coloration to those on the 6-inch celestial globe.
