Uncut sheet of 18th-century French playing cards. Four rows of six cards each, comprising two jacks, two kings, and two queens, which are named for famous people in the Bible, literature and history. Images in the first two rows are repeated in the second two rows.
Characters portrayed (two of each) are: Queens: Pallas, Judith, Rachel, Argine Kings: David, Charles, Cesar (Caesar), Alexander Jacks: Hogier, Lahire, Hector, Lancelot Condition: Generally very good with the usual overall wear, toning, soft creases. Formerly folded and with minor losses at folds, now professionally restored and strengthened by being rebacked on Japanese paper. |
