Commemorative or Trophy Yachting Regatta Pitcher
Henry Alcock & Co., Cobridge, England: Late 19th Century
Ceramic "semi-porcelain" with hand painted and photo-transfer decoration
10 inches high, 6.5 x 5.5 inches
$750

Four-sided commemorative pitcher for a yacht in the Victorian style, possibly produced as a trophy or memento for a regatta. It features photo transfers on opposite sides, one of two boats and the other a mustachioed man, presumably the boat's captain or owner. The pitcher is glazed in white and off-white with gold decoration, and on the side opposite the handle a painted emblem of a yachting flag, oars, anchor, and cattail roots. The manufacturer's coat of arms is on the bottom.

Condition: Generally very good with expected scattered wear and abrasions to decoration, especially gold decorative highlights, and to photo transfers.
