Circumpolar Hemispheric Map of the World
Stained Glass Window

Prague: Early 20th Century
33 inches diameter, 3 inches deep
$4,200

The circular wooden window frame enclosing a stained glass window (colored glass sections in lead mullions) of a map image of the world on circumpolar projection, with equatorial and topical circular lead mullions, oceans in blue, continents in red, orange and purple.

An unusual custom-made stained glass window world map, purchased in Prague, and originally installed in a now-unknown building there. Continents are shown, recognizable but somewhat distorted in form. This distortion might be due to the unusual projection, a historical view of the earth as known hundreds of years ago, or might simply be the artist's informal conception.

Condition: Wooden frame with wear and white paint commensurate with former use. Few small cracks to glass, nonetheless stable.
