Extremely fine ivory gavel presented to Francis M. Carpenter, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors of Westchester County, New York, by the members of the board. The head of the gavel has a central gold engraved presentation band flanked by intricately hand-carved raised relief acorn and oak leaf decoration. The well-turned handle terminates in a carved acorn finial, and is incised with the names of the presenters. Francis M. Carpenter was a Republican from Mt. Kisco, New York. He also served as an alternate delegate to the Republican National Convention in 1908.

Gold mallet band: "Presented To Francis M. Carpenter, Esq. -Chairman- By the Board of Supervisors of Westchester County 1872."

Condition: Very good with the usual overall toning and scattered wear. Some minor shrinkage cracks and stains.
