Microscope

Microscope, of typical form, the ebonized body with U-shaped base, having lacquered brass fittings, rack-and-pinion adjustable lens, adjustable mirror and slide holders, etc.  Box with door, carrying handle, locking mechanism, and key.

Bausch & Lomb was founded by John Jacob Bausch with financing by Henry Lomb in 1853 as an optical goods shop in Rochester, New York.  Within 50 years, it grew into a manufacturing firm for vision correction products as well as a range of precision instruments including microscopes and binoculars.  Today it is one of the oldest continually operating companies in the United States.

Plaque on base stamped: “BAUSCH & LOMB OPTICAL CO./ Rochester, N. Y./ New York City/ 27978”

Shaft of eyepiece lens stamped: “BAUSCH & LOMB OPTICAL CO.”

Condition:  Generally very good with the usual wear and abrasions.  Apparently in working condition. Box good, but with scratches and wear to finish.
